TNA Knockouts – May 17, 2012 iMpact Match – Knockouts Championship Match
Velvet Sky vs. Brooke Tessmacher vs. Gail Kim
- Out first is the always lovely Velvet Sky, followed by the smoking hot Brooke Tessmacher and then last, but certainly not least, the TNA Knockouts Champion Gail Kim.
And as soon as the bell rings the champion wants out, but neither challenger is letting that happen. Brooke throws the champ down by her hair, and as Kim recovers Velvet decks her with a forearm, followed by an even stiffer one from Tessmacher, and then another one from Sky, into a boot from Tessmacher and then a nice Flying Clothesline from Velvet. Kim again tries to leave, only for Sky to pull her back in, Sky then hits her patented double Knee strikes, followed by a HUGE Flying Elbow from Tessmacher. Gail rolls to the outside, while the her challengers realize this isn’t a tag match and lock up. Brooke with a schoogirl for a one count. Velvet with a Small package for her own one count. Velvet locks in a nice, tight side Headlock, which Brooke eventually wiggles out of and sends her off the ropes, but Velvet stops Tessmacher’s momentum, with a kick. Sky goes running for the ropes, but Gail grabs her legs, and pulls her out of the ring. Kim goes after Brooke with a nice clothesline, followed by some stomps, before throwing her into the second rope and choking her out with her legs. At this Velvet tries to get back in the ring, but Kim is having none of that and rams into her, knocking the former Knockouts Champion off the rope. Kim pulls Tessmacher up and after a knee to the gut lays her out with a Sideslam Backbreaker. Gail then chokes out Brooke out and after a four count locks in a B-E-A-utiful Full Boston Crab, which leads to Velvet getting back in the match and locking in a Dragon Sleeper. Gail powers out of Velvet’s hold and tries to re-tighten her own hold, but Sky knocks her down with a kick to the back. Velvet keeps her momentum going with a couple elbows and then whips Kim into a corner. Velvet goes running for a Corner Splash, but misses as Gail pulls away. Kim then locks in a nice Octopus Submission on Brooke. Velvet comes from behind and tries for a Schoolgirl roll up, Gail rolls out and pins Brooke, but Velvet breaks it up. All three women are spent by this point, but Velvet digs deep and recovers first and goes after the Knockouts Champion. Brooke grabs her leg and tries to stop her, however Velvet just clubs her a couple times and tries for her In Yo’ Face, but Brooke reverses it and goes for the TessShocker, buy Velvet keeps her feet planted. The two then two around into a diving drop kick from the champion. All three women are now down and out.
Gail and Brooke recover first and exchange forearms, before Kim goes for her Eat Defeat, but Tessmacher scouts the move and pushes the champion away. Brooke then turns around and gets taken down by an In Yo Face courtesy of Velvet Sky. Sky looks to get the three count and the Knockouts championship, however Gail breaks it, throws Sky to the outside and stack Brooke up getting the one, Two, THREE and succesfully retains her TNA Knockouts Championship, and crawls even closer to breaking her BFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF Madison Rayne’s record as the longest Knockouts Champion.
Winner: And Still Knockouts Champion Gail Kim at 4:41.
Thoughts: Really good match. All three women hits some nice, memorable spots. From the Awesome Boston Crab/Dragon Sleeper spot, to the Velvet/Brooke finisher reversal to Gail’s diving dropkick. It was all great and flowed really really well. My only complaint: Why give a nice strong Knockouts Championship match like this away for free? This could have easily been the Knockouts Match at Slammiversary. But who knows maybe this means TNA will finally bury the half-baked Valvet-Gail feud and either fully invest in Brooke Tessmacher or move on to a fresh feud like Angelina Love or Sarita or ODB. Come on TNA people are starting to get annoyed with Velvet Sky. It’s time to push some other talent. Put Velvet and Brooke in the Tag Team Division and let them run wild over there. Please.

Also on iMpact watch as ODB competed in a Wild Card Battle Royale for Next Weeks Open Fight night, and Madison Rayne even makes an appearance, stalking her crush. (Which has yet to be revealed.)
